One of the reasons why so many believers are being deceived today is that they remain ignorant of the fact that doctrines and teachings do not come alone but they are always accompanied by a certain spirit.  Yes, if the new teaching is not accompanied by the Holy Spirit, then it is accompanied by another spirit – a spirit other than the Holy Spirit.  We can see this mind of God reflected in Paul’s writings.

“For [you seem readily to endure it] if a man comes and preaches another Jesus than the One we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the [Spirit] you [once] received or a different gospel from the one you [then] received {and} welcomed; you tolerate [all that] well enough!”
(Amplified  II Cor 11:4)

The apostle Paul emphasizes here about another Jesus, another Spirit and another Gospel!  Paul says that the Corinthians welcomed such ones!  His fear was that believers would be deceived and would be ever willing to receive false teaching because when a doctrine is preached it does not come by itself.  It comes with a spirit.  If it is not accompanied by the Holy Spirit, another spirit will come along, hidden behind the word or activity.  Remember that!  The Word of God may be used liberally in the false doctrine or teaching, but there will be another spirit at the root of it all.  Saints we have to be very careful in these last days.  Only a true revelation of the Son will help us in these days.  We must give ourselves to the Word of God without any hesitation, but we must also examine whether it is accompanied by the Holy Spirit or not.

The Amplified Bible puts it this way,
“O you poor and silly and thoughtless and unreflecting and senseless Galatians!  Who has fascinated or bewitched or cast a spell over you, unto whom — right before your eyes — Jesus Christ the Messiah, was openly and graphically set forth and portrayed as crucified?”

The word bewitched is a powerful word that adds another dimension to the situation in Galatia.  It brings us into a dimension where another spiritual power comes into play to influence and affect God’s people.  It was not just a matter of the Galatians being deviated from the truth.  Something more lay behind it all.  They had come under the influence of another spirit which had cast a spell on them.  They had entered into another dimension.  Paul was letting them know that they were being influenced and overcome by another spirit – a spirit other than the Spirit of God.  They were in the grip of a spiritual power that formulated that wrong opinion.  They were bewitched by a spiritual power that strongly influenced them to take wrong steps in their lives.

Beloved, the Church of Jesus Christ is being inundated with the doctrines of demons.  God’s people  are being attacked in these days by seducing spirits that are spewing out a false doctrine, a false faith and even a false Jesus.  Many Bible-believing Christians are moving out from true faith to counterfeit faith in these days. During a recent visit of mine to one city, I found that all that was happening in the churches genuinely confused some of the believers there.  They genuinely sought the truth but their minds had been polluted and despoiled by the things that they had put their hands into.  Beloved, the majority of the churchgoers live under a false impression that they are Bible-believing Christians!  This may seem to be a bold statement but it is true.  Too many believers think that they are serving God, whereas they have been deceived into believing that they are doing so.  The god of this age has affected many a sincere believer.  Saints, our eyes must behold the Lord.  We must come into and maintain an inward link with our God and with His burden and His purposes in these days.  There is a great need for our eyes to behold the King in these days.

“Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:”
(1 Pet 1:22)

It is obedience to the truth that purifies the soul of a believer.  The purpose of all false doctrine is to keep us from obeying the truth.  Peter says that the way to purify our souls is through the obedience of the truth.
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
(John 8:31-32)

Obedience to the truth purifies a believer and sets the believer free.  The written truth and the living truth which is the Lord Jesus Christ will set us free.  He will set us free.  We shall know the truth which is God’s word and also the Lord Jesus Christ who is the way and the truth.  If the Son of God shall make you free you shall be free indeed.

The Word of God is the truth and that truth shall set you free as you obey it.  It will first purify you and then as you obey it, you will be experience a freedom, a true liberation!  This is why the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth.  Praise God!
